Welcome to a masterclass for high school students co-taught by DCT's Artistic Director, Emily Ernst, and Director of Education, Julianna E. Wright. This eleven-week course will focus on what you need for a successful college audition: monologue selection and prep, mock auditions/interviews, resume building, materials required for scholarship applications, and summer internship programs. By the end of the course, students will leave with two contrasting monologues to add to their portfolios: a recorded audition tape and a professional headshot by local director, filmmaker, and photographer Frank Darko.
The cohort is limited to twelve participants and teaches:
- Monologue Selection and Analysis
- Monologue Preparation
- Rehearsal and Memorization Technique
- Vocal and Physical Technique
- Character Analysis
- Performance Technique
-
Emily attended SMU's Meadows School of the Arts and the International Movement School of Jacques Lecoq in Paris. She is the Artistic Director of Dallas Children's Theater and an experienced actor, director, and educator.
-
Julianna is an experienced Producer, Director, Actor, Playwright, and Theater Educator. As the former Performance Director at the McCallum Fine Arts Academy in Austin, she helped students prepare for the next steps in their artistic journey to great success
-
Frank Darko is a Dallas native and interdisciplinary storyteller with a passion for fine art and storytelling.
Class Requirements
Detailed information about the requirements for each class can be found in the "About" section of the respective course.
Dress Code
All students are required to wear closed-toe shoes. Sandals, flip-flops, Crocs, and other open-toed footwear are not permitted.
Carpool Information
For safety and security purposes, DCT Academy utilizes a carpool system for drop-off and pick-up.
Sick Policy
The health and safety of our students are a top priority. To prevent the spread of illnesses, we ask that sick students remain at home. If a student becomes ill during class, they will be isolated from the other students, and their caregiver will be contacted immediately to pick them up. Students must be symptom-free before returning.
COVID-19 Considerations: In addition to general illness prevention, we recommend the following for students experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or exposure:
- Stay home: Students who exhibit symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should isolate at home.
- COVID-19 testing: If your child has had symptoms or has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should consider giving them a COVID-19 test before returning to class.
- Follow local guidelines: We will adhere to local and state health department guidelines regarding COVID-19 protocols.
Late Policy
Students must be picked up promptly at the end of each session. Late fees may apply for late pickup.
Refunds
- Fall, Spring, and Summer Sessions:
- Full payment is due at enrollment.
- Partial refunds are available if withdrawal is requested at least two weeks before the session begins. No refunds will be issued after this deadline.
- Mini Sessions:
- Payments for mini-sessions are nonrefundable.
Class Cancellation Policy
DCT reserves the right to cancel any class due to unforeseen circumstances. In the case of inclement weather, DCT cannot guarantee that missed classes can be made up.
