Nitya Anam
Project: QR Codes installed on DCT Season History Posters
Date completed: 02/21/2024
Nitya Anam, a life scout with Troop 261, has completed the 46th Eagle Project at DCT. Nitya led her team to safely create, cut, and place 373 separate QR code labels on DCT's Season History Posters in the Education Hallway. Each QR code will take viewers with a smartphone to the program of the production on the poster. The first picture features Nitya and DCT Artist-in-Residence, and Eagle Scout, Karl Schaeffer in front of one of the panels featuring the QR codes. The second picture features the team preparing to place labels on the DCT's Season History Archive Posters in the education hallway. AJ Ball
Project: DCT Poster Mounting project

DCT is thrilled to announce the completion of an Eagle Project: The Poster Mounting Project. A total of thirty-eight DCT show posters were safely mounted in hallways at DCT. The team responsible for mounting the posters was led by AJ Ball, a Life scout from Troop 43. The first picture features the team hanging four of the six posters in the studio hallway. The second picture features the team mounting one of thirty-two posters in the DCT severe weather hallway. The third picture features AJ and DCT Artist-in-Residence, Karl Schaeffer in front of the six posters the team mounted. DCT would like to thank AJ and his team for their excellent work on this project.

Project: Scenery for the Makin' Movie class: The Oval Office

Leighton Arthur a scout with Troop 82, recently completed his Eagle Project by leading a team to safely design, paint and deliver 12 painted fabric panels to benefit DCT's Education Department. The panels can be arranged in any order and used as a "The Oval Office" background for the Makin' Movies class. The first photo shows Leighton and one possible arrangement of the panels. The second photo (l-r) features the head of Minor Motion Pictures, Fred Frivolous, AKA Karl Schaeffer the instructor of the Makin' Movies class and Leighton. Bo Brady
Project: DCT 40th Anniversary Video
Date completed: 02/04/2023
Bo Brady, a scout with Troop 82, has completed his Eagle Project for Dallas Children's Theater. Bo led a video crew to write, shoot, and edit a documentary to celebrate Dallas Children's Theater's 40th Anniversary. Bo and the video crew conducted interviews with past and present DCT staff and students, shot b-roll footage, and viewed archival footage. The first photo features DCT Artist-in-Residence, Karl Schaeffer and Bo in front of the title page of the documentary. In the second photo (l-r) Bo is presenting DCT with a check for $594.10 of excess funds he raised for his project. The documentary will be screened on February 14, 2023 at the 20th Anniversary of the Rosewood Center for Family Arts. DCT thanks Bo and his team for their hard work on this project.

Project: Scenery for the Makin' Movie Class Caves
Date completed: 08/05/2022
Tyler Abbara, a scout with Troop 82, has completed his Eagle Project for the Dallas Children's Theater. Tyler, and his team, safely designed, painted and delivered 9 painted panels depicting a cave setting to benefit DCT's Education Department. The panels are non-contiguous and can be arranged in any order. They will be put to great use as backgrounds for the Makin' Movies class. The first photo shows one possible arrangement of the panels. Harman Hira
Project: Emergency Evacuation and Severe Weather Plans
Date completed: 12/16/2018
DCT has new emergency evacuation and severe weather refuge plans thanks to Harman Hira, a Life Scout from Troop 51. Harman safely led his team to design and install a total of 28 plans throughout the Rosewood Center for Family Arts building. The emergency evacuation plans include primary and secondary exit paths, locations of first aid kits and AEDs, as well as the outdoor gathering place in the event DCT needs to be evacuated. The severe weather refuge plans include areas where people should gather in the event of severe weather. Hiram is pictured with two of the plans posted in the LaCerte Gallery. Collins Grushey
Project: Scenery for the Makin' Movie class
Date completed: 4/29/2018
Collins Grushey, a scout with Troop 68, recently completed his Eagle Project by leading a team to safely design, paint and deliver 6 3'X7' panels to benefit DCT's Education Department. The panels can be arranged in any order and used as a "Superhero Headquarters" background for the Makin' Movies class. In the first photo (l-r), Collins is giving a $467.83 donation from Troop 68 to DCT. Collins raised more money than he needed and per BSA policy donated the extra funds to DCT. Jacob Peterson
Project: Furniture Inventory
Date completed: 10/19/2017
Jacob Peterson, a life scout with Troop 890, recently completed his Eagle Project at Dallas Children's Theater. Jacob led a team of scouts to safely create an online inventory of DCT furniture. Jacob and his team measured and photographed each piece of furniture stored in the prop area. They also assigned each piece of furniture a serial number which matches the online entry. This will allow DCT staff to keep track of furniture used in in-house productions as well as furniture that may be loaned to other theaters. Jacob is pictured in the prop area and seated on one of the thrones in the inventory. DCT thanks Jacob and his team for this great project.

Project: Rosewood Welcome Signs

Garrett Peterson, a life scout with Troop 1177, has completed his Eagle Project at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts. Garrett led a team to safely design, build, stain and deliver six directional signs which will enable guests of DCT to navigate the building. In the first picture Garrett is pictured with the six signs he and his team built. Project Title: Bulletin Boards & Nested Apple Boxes
Date completed: 11/22/2016
Max Piper, a life scout with Troop 890, recently completed his Eagle Project at Dallas Children's Theater. Max safely led a team to design, build and install two nested apple boxes for the Makin' Movies class in the education department as well as two bulletin/dry erase boards for the production department. In the first picture Max is standing with the apple boxes and bulletin/dry erase board in the costume shop. Project: Makin' Movies Scenery

The Makin' Movies class is fortunate to have two new scenery elements thanks to Ford McGovern. Ford, a scout with Troop 72 led a team of scouts to safely design and paint two 3'X7' scenery drops to complete his Eagle Project. In the first picture, Karl Schaeffer, (left) Makin' Movies instructor and Ford (right) stand in front of the scenery. The second picture features the painted drops, one depicts a weapons collection and the other is a vault. The DCT education department thanks Ford and his team for these drops which will be used in the next Makin' Movies production.

Project Title: Video/Tape Conversion Process
Date completed: 7/20/2016
Jose Torrealba, a life scout with Troop 838, recently completed his Eagle project for Dallas Children's Theater. Jose and his team safely documented a process to transfer video from VHS tapes to a digital format. This will allow DCT and future volunteers to archive DCT videotapes. Trash Can Covers

Hudson Donham, a boy scout from Troop 82, has completed his eagle project at Dallas Children's Theater. The Rosewood Center for Family Arts has a community meeting space called the Gables. Hudson led a team to safely purchase and assemble two trash can covers in the Gables. Hudson is pictured with the covers in the first photo. Matthew Laza
Book Borrow Benches
Date completed: 12/5/2015
Matthew Laza, a scout with Troop 718, and his team of scouts safely designed, built, assembled and delivered three benches to Dallas Children's Theater. Matthew refurbished one bench for the Lacerte Gallery. The other two benches feature a shelf on the bottom to hold books. The new Book Borrow Benches will be an informal lending library. If you bring a book from home, you can leave it and take one you haven't read. In the first picture, Matthew (on the left) is pictured with DCT staff member Randy Pearlman in front of the benches. Carson DeBauge
In Memoriam

The staff of Dallas Children's Theater was saddened to hear of the passing of Carson DeBauge. Carson was a boy scout with Troop 72 and had begun working on his Eagle Project for DCT in September of 2015. His family asked that donations be made to DCT in lieu flowers. We are deeply honored by these gifts and wish to thank Carson's family and friends for their generosity at this most difficult time.
Zachary Hundley
DCT Poster Slide show and TV.

Zachary Hundley, a boy scout with Troop 435, recently completed his eagle project for DCT. Zachary safely led a team to photograph all show posters in the DCT archives. They then photoshopped the posters and created a slide show. They also raised money to purchase a 42" TV on which to display the slide show. Black & white rolling scenery panels

Christian Williams of Troop 72 led a team to safely design, build, stain and deliver a brick display case. Pictured in the first photo are some of the team members. Thomas Stephenson, a scout with Troop 72, safely led a team to plan, build and paint eight rolling panels. His eagle scout project benefits DCT Academy classes. Table Cart and Folding Table Cart

Dallas Children's Theater is pleased to announce that setting up for meetings and rehearsals just became a great deal easier thanks to Zachary Herring, a Life scout with Troop 72. Zachary safely led a team to design, purchase materials, build and deliver two table carts. One table cart can hold nine - six foot tables. The other cart holds five - six foot folding tables. Zachary is pictured with DCT's Karl Schaeffer. We thank Zachary and his team for allowing us to move tables safely around the Rosewood Center for Family Arts.

Gable's Class Stage

Life scout, Stuart Foster of Troop 35, recently delivered his eagle project to the Rosewood Center for Family Arts. This carpeted stage consists of eight, four foot by four foot, platforms,which can be rearranged for class performances and special events in the Gables at the Dallas Children's Theater. Stuart led his team to safely design, build and deliver the platforms. In the first photo are some of the team members who worked on the project (l-r) Kellis Dooley, Stuart Foster and Tristan Besson. Stuart is seen with one of the platforms in the second photo. Dallas Children's Theater is honored to be the beneficiary of this great project.

Lobby Periodical Rack

Varun Ravi a life scout with boy scout Troop 70 led a team of scouts to safely design, build, paint and deliver a rolling periodical rack for Dallas Children's Theater. This rack replaces four wire periodical racks in our lobby. The new rack moves easily enabling DCT staff to rearrange the lobby for various events. Project Trash Can Covers

Michael Wartberg, a Life scout from Troop 890, and DCT Artist-in-Residence and Eagle Project Coordinator, Karl Schaeffer, hold the cover of the Michael's Eagle project workbook. Michael recently delivered his Eagle Project to DCT. Michael safely led a team to design, build and stain four trash can covers. These covers will be used throughout the Rosewood Center for Family Arts. We thank Michael and his team for helping DCT spruce up our public areas.

Trash Can/Recycle Bin Covers

For his Eagle project at DCT Anastasios Harris, a Life scout from Troop 1199, safely led a team to design, build and stain four trash can/recycle bin covers. These covers will be used through out the building to cover up DCT trash cans and making public areas look nicer. Lighting Cable Carts

The DCT lighting crew is very happy thanks to Life Scout, Ryan Pascoe of Troop 636. Ryan led a team to safely, design, acquire materials, build, paint and deliver five lighting cable carts. These carts will enable the DCT lighting crew to safely store and move lighting cables during the lighting hangs for each of the DCT productions. Dressing Room Shelves
Date completed: July 31, 2014
The dressing rooms at DCT got a needed upgrade thanks to Life scout Braden Weitzel of troop 435. Braden led his team to safely, design, construct, paint, seal and install shelves in two of the large dressing rooms of the Baker Theater. Braden's team installed a total of sixty-two feet of shelving. He also built ten adjustable shelving units. DCT actors will now be able to store their hats and wigs in a safe and organized way. William Malouf
Scanning and creating a searchable database of Dallas Children's Theater show programs

William led a team of scouts and adults to safely scan over 306 DCT show programs. In addition to scanning the programs the team also ran an optical character recognition (OCR) program on the scanned documents so they are searchable. William is pictured in front of a portion of our Season History wall in the Education Hallway at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts. Round Table Storage Carts/ Refurbishing Chair carts

John Cannata, a life scout with Troop 518, recently completed his Eagle Project for Dallas Children's Theater. John safely led a team to design, gather materials, build and paint two round table storage carts. The carts will enable DCT staff to move up to ten round tables around the Rosewood Center and store them in a closet when they aren't needed. John and his team also refurbished sixteen chair carts. Kyle Galerston
Sword Database and Rack
Completed: 1/18/2014
The next time DCT does a production with sword play, we will be able to find the right swords for the stage combat thanks to life scout, Kyle Galerston of Troop 72. For his eagle project, Kyle led a team of scouts to compile a database of the DCT weapon collection. The database included the following information about each of the 106 weapons: length, width, material, style as well as a picture of each weapon. Kyle led his team to safely dull the sword blades to make them safe for the stage. The team also built a sword rack. Kyle (pictured left) is thanked by DCT Artist-in-Residence Karl Schaeffer.

Classroom Closet Shelves

Michael Hood, of Boy Scout Troop 890, led a team of scouts to safely design, acquire, build, paint and install shelving for a closet at the Rosewood Center for Family Arts. This will allow Dallas Children's Theater teaching artists to quickly locate class supplies and props utilized in the DCT Academy classes. Michael is pictured with one set of shelves. Cabinets for blueprints and keys | Completed 07/01/13
Austin safely lead a team to design, procure materials, build and paint cabinets to store DCT's building blueprints and keys. Pictured with Austin are DCT's Chief Administrative Director, John Sichter and Aaron Rodriguez, I.T. Support. The project was requested by Mr. Sichter and arrives just in time as Mr. Sichter is retiring from DCT. He can rest assured that thanks to Austin and his team, the DCT building blueprints and keys will be organized and easy to locate. Thanks, Austin! Dameron Mason
Projection Equipment Cabinet | Completed 10/7/12
Thanks to Dameron Mason, a life scout with Troop 67, Dallas Children's Theater has a new cabinet to store projection equipment. DCT staff electrician, Ziggy Renner, is shown with Dameron and the new cabinet he and his team of scouts built. The cabinet is six feet, six inches tall, four feet, six inches wide and two feet deep. Dameron led a team to safely design, procure materials, build, paint and deliver the cabinet to DCT. We thank him for all his hard work. Now our projection equipment has a safe place to be stored when not in use.

Production Office Cubicle Unit & Shelving | Completed 1/29/12
Dallas Children's Theater production offices got a new look thanks to Cameron Keith's Eagle project. Cameron, a Life Scout with Troop 72, safely led a team of scouts to design, build, paint and install two wall mounted cubicle/shelves and a free standing cubicle unit. The cubicle/shelves will be used to make the offices more organized. Prop Cabinet for Stage Weapons | Completed 11/05/11
Dallas Children's Theater's Stage Combat weapons got a new home thanks to James Cook of Troop 118. For his Eagle project James safely lead a team of scouts to design, build, paint and install a 6' X 6' X 3' cabinet to hold Dallas Children's Theater's props including stage combat swords, clubs and firearms. James is pictured with some of his team members as well as the outside of the cabinet. Also pictured is the wire rack James designed to store swords. Rolling Cable Cart & Display Easels | Completed 9/26/11
Boy Scout Azhar Lakhani is pictured with easels and a rolling cart to hold lighting cables. These items were safely designed, built and delivered to Dallas Children's Theater as part of his Eagle project. The easels will be used to display art work in the Lacerte Gallery. When not in use they are designed to be stored beneath display cases in the gallery. The cable cart will be used by our lighting crew during lighting hangs. Rolling Scenery Panels | Completed: 9/09/11
Bohn Drinkwater, a boy scout with Troop 82, stands with some of the rolling scenery panels he constructed as part of his Eagle Scout Project for Dallas Children's Theater. John safely led his team to plan, design, procure materials, build, paint and deliver 12 rolling panels. He also disposed of older bulky panels. The white and black panels will be used to display scenery that students draw and color for class shows at Dallas Children's Theater.

Cart for CPR Training Materials | Completed: 4/08/11
Dallas Children's Theater Artist in Residence Karl Schaeffer thanks Life Scout Andy Kopel for his Eagle Project that enable our staff to keep their CPR/AED skills current. Andy led a team of scouts to safely design, procure materials, build, paint and deliver this cart to store American Red Cross CPR/AED training materials as well as CPR mannequins. The cart can also accommodate a 32" HD TV (wish list) and DVD player for viewing Red Cross videos.

Red Chair Carts/Baby Changing Stations | Completed: 8/18/09
Dallas Children's Theater welcomes family members ages 0 to "Young at Heart." Development Assistant & Coordinator Meagan Carroll (right in both photos) thanks Life Scout Travis Conine for his Eagle Prject that will make families with infants and toddlers more comfortable. Travis led a team of scouts to safely install two baby changing stations in restrooms. Meagan also thanks Travis and the team he led for the four rolling chair carts, custom-made to store and move our red chairs. Travis led a team of scouts to design, procure materials, build, paint and deliver these carts.

DCT Needs an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) | Completed: 7/29/09
Dallas Children's Theater has an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) thanks to Khanh Truong of Boy Scout Troop 730. Kahn led a tem of scouts to research, fund raise, purchase and install an AED. Khanh and his team manned the "DCT Needs an AED" booth at seven performances of The Neverending Story to accept donations and sell tickets to a Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebee's Restaurant. Boy scouts Vishal Goakani, Khanh and Matthew Edmison are shown above at the booth. On the day of the fundraiser, Khanh (second from the right), speaks to Visnal while at far left Kunal Dixit and Assistant Scoutmaster Mr. Schaeffer man the ticket sales. Center left is Dr. Jeff Kopita dscussing an AED displayed by Mr. Devin Dreiling of AED manufacturer Cardiac Science. The July 11 Fundraiser at Applebee's raised almost $2,700 for the purchase of an AED and alarmed cabinet, an AED trainer, four CPR manikins and CPR/AED training materials. Shelving Off Kitchen | Completed: 5/2/09
Dallas Children's Theater Artist-in-Residence Karl Schaeffer (left) thanks John Schwab, a Boy Scout with Troop 72 for completing his Eagle Scout Project. John led a team of scouts to design, build and finish a shelving unit for storing boxes of DCT stationary and season brochures. In the past, these boxes would clutter our offices. Thanks to John and his team, we now have three selving units (6' x 32" x 18") which match the cabinets in the Gables.

Black Chair Carts/Shelves Behind Kitchen | Completed: 3/29/09
Boy Scout Pearce Illmer led a team of scouts to design, build and paint six chair carts and two shelving units. Each chair cart can safely move ten plastic chairs. Gina Waits, Dallas Children's Theater After-School-Drama and Intern Coordinator, thanks Pearce for these carts which will make our interns more efficient. Above right Karl Schaeffer, DCT Artist-in-Residence, congratulates Pearce on the great shelves he built in the storage room behind the kitchen in the Gables.
The shelving units' dimensions are 1' x 12' x 8' and 27" x 8' x 7'6".

Class/Rehearsal Tri-fold Screens | Completed: 6/18/08
Life Scout Will Sprier (at left, with DCT Artist-in-Residence Karl Schaeffer) built ten 3' x 7' panels that can hold scenery for our class productions. The screens are pin hinged and can be used in many flexible arrangements.
Bryan Crabb
Black Chair Carts | Completed: 4/24/08
Dallas Children's Theater hosts numerous events, often requiring chairs to be moved around the Rosewood Center. This task just became easier thanks to six rolling chair carts built by Life Scout Bryan Crabb of Troop 72. For his Eagle Project, Bryan led a team of scouts to design, build and paint these time saving carts. Each cart can safely move ten plastic chairs.

Dallas Children's Theater Education Director Nancy Schaeffer is thrilled to organize class supplies on shelves provided by Life Scout Mark Sehnert of Boy Scout Troop 72. For his Eagle project, Mark led a team of scouts to design, acquire, build and install shelving for the Music Room closet. Dallas Children's Theater thanks Mark for the shelving unit.

Blue Chair Carts | Completed: 10/2/07
Michael Labbe-Lane (left) of Boy Scout Troop 779 surveys his completed Eagle Project benefiting Dallas Children's Theater. Michael led a team of scouts to design, build and stain six rolling carts. Each of these carts can hold and move 10 stackable chairs. Staff Member Blake Sommerfield joins the rest of the DCT staff in thanking Michael for these time and labor saving carts.
Malcolm Carradine
Brick Boxes | Completed: 10/20/06
Malcolm Carradine (center) surveys his completed Eagle Scout Project. Malcolm designed and supervised the construction of three wooden boxes to display commemorative bricks at the Dallas Children's Theater. Carradine was assisted by other boy scouts, including Anthony Schaeffer (left) and assistant scoutmaster and DCT employee Karl Schaeffer (right). The scouts spent Saturdays a the theater installing 250 square feet of brick. They also developed a database for the theate to locate each of the 380 bricks by inscription, brick size or donor name. The Bricks are now on permanent display in the new drive up and The Dee & Charles Wyly Family Garden as of September 2009. This is a great way to commemorate birthdays and anniversaries, or just a way to make a friend or family member feel extra special.
