Exercises for Creative Growth
DCT offers resources for educators drawn from and inspired by Paul Baker's Integration of Abilities. A comprehensive video presentation is the anchor in each unit. The purpose of each lesson is to awaken the genius within and help students identify their preferred learning styles by devoting concentrated time in the classroom and at home connecting with each sense. Each unit includes an overview, teacher background, video and assignments.
Creating excitement in the minds of students and educators.
The Sensory Search exercises begin with asking the students to direct their attention to their own sensory experiences, i.e., what do you hear, what do you see, what textures do you feel, what kinds of sensations do you get from different kinds of physical movement, and what kinds of spaces do you like?
Each student already has a wealth of sensory data and is already an authority on this data. Each are "experts." Few have ever been told that this very personal, unique information matters: that a strong sense of rhythm is a treasure, that a desire to communicate via drawing or sculpting may indicate a visual learner, that the student who can't sit still might need to receive information kinetically. These indications are important clues for educators. These preferences not only matter, but live at the very starting point of how that individual relates to others and how and in what ways they follow their curiosity into understanding their immediate world, serving as the connecting point for them into all other learning and education.
What will your students learn?
In the Sensory Search exercises, the student begins to identify their sensory preferences and feel proud of their expertise. They can then enter into lessons with excitement, especially when given a chance to connect their expertise to the new lesson, in that way building on their strength and taking it further. It is a brilliant basis for education and provides the teacher/parent insight on how that student learns most easily.
