The beloved Peanuts characters are back at Dallas Children's Theater! In A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, everyone is enjoying and preparing for the holiday...everyone except for Charlie Brown. But, will he discover the true reason for the season in time to celebrate with all of his friends?

I never eat December snowflakes. I always wait until January.

Unlike Lucy, those of us living in North Texas don't usually get to see December snowflakes...at least, not the ones that fall from the sky. But, that doesn't mean we can't create our own. Before coming to see DCT's production of A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, try out the following activity and fill your home with snowflakes. Then, come to the theater and share in the joy of a winter wonderland with the Peanuts gang!

Coffee Filter Snowflakes

Materials needed:

  • white coffee filters
  • scissors
  • washable markers, water dropper or spoon (optional)

Instructions:

  • To make colorful snowflakes, color the coffee filters with washable markers in a pattern of your choosing (for super colorful snowflakes, cover as much of the coffee filter as possible). Then, using the water dropper or spoon, drip water all over the coffee filter (enjoy watching the colors mix together). Let dry. If you want white snowflakes, skip this step.
  • Fold the coffee filter: fold in half, then fold the corners towards each other so that (if unfolded) you have three even sections, then fold in half again. Alternatively, you can fold the filter in half four times. For more details and photos about how to fold the filters, check out onelittleproject.com/coffee-filter-snowflakes/
  • Cut patterns into the folded coffee filters. To have a center hole, cut off the tip. Unfold the filter and check out your unique creation.
  • Tape the snowflakes to your windows, hang them around your home, or display them however brings you and your loved ones joy this holiday season!

DCT Staff Thoughts

The holidays are busy in our household. From school activities to extended-family celebrations (and everything else in between), there is a lot on our to-do list. During this season, I have to be very intentional with our time or we can be overwhelmed by obligations. Whether it's creating a craft together, like coffee filter snowflakes, or spending a cozy afternoon at the theater watching a beloved classic, I never regret slowing down and connecting with the ones I love.

These activities are for you to enjoy while you are at home, and hopefully bring a little DCT fun into your quality time together. We have found that the more prepared our audiences can be before they get to the theater, the more engaged they will be as an audience. After you create snowflakes for your home, don't forget to see A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS at Dallas Children's Theater.
