Hats off

This is from an interview with Ms. Kate DiCamillo about writing "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane:"

Q. Where did you get the idea for writing a book about a large china rabbit?
A. A friend gave me a very elegant rabbit "doll" (sorry, Edward) for Christmas a couple of years ago. Not long after receiving the rabbit, I had this very clear image of him underwater, on the bottom of the sea, minus all of his finery, lost and alone.

Just like Ms. DiCamillo wrote "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" inspired by her own personal rabbit doll, you can encourage your kids to create their own tale based on one of their toys, stuffed animals, or dolls! What kind of adventures will they embark upon? Where are they from, and where are they going? Who do they meet along the way? Does their story have a happy ending?

Once they have written their imaginative story about their favorite toy, please send it to Dallas Children's Theater! Take a picture of the stuffed animal, doll, or toy that the tale is inspired by, and send the picture along with the story. DCT will have a lobby display of all submitted stories/ photos during the run of "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane."

DCT Mom thoughts

Meet Fred the Frog, "Choo Choo," and Monkey, our toddler's toys. I wonder what kind of adventures these toys take each time he plays with them. Oh, how I look forward to hearing his 'tales' once he is a little older! Keep encouraging your kids to read and write. You never know, they might be the next Kate DiCamillo!
