Project Name: Brick Boxes

(center) surveys his completed Eagle Scout Project.  Malcolm designed and supervised the construction of three wooden boxes to display commemorative bricks at the Dallas Children's Theater.  Carradine was assisted by other boy scouts, including Anthony Schaeffer (left) and assistant scoutmaster and DCT employee Karl Schaeffer (right).  The scouts spent Saturdays a the theater installing 250 square feet of brick.  They also developed a database for the theate to locate each of the 380 bricks by inscription, brick size or donor name.  The Bricks are now on permanent display in the new drive up and The Dee & Charles Wyly Family Garden as of September 2009.  This is a great way to commemorate birthdays and anniversaries, or just a way to make a friend or family member feel extra special.

Project Name: Blue Chair Carts

Michael Labbe-Lane (left) of Boy Scout Troop 779 surveys his completed Eagle Project benefiting Dallas Children's Theater.  Michael led a team of scouts to design, build and stain six rolling carts.  Each of these carts can hold and move 10 stackable chairs.  Staff Member Blake Sommerfield (right) joins the rest of the DCT staff in thanking Michael for these time and labor saving carts.

DCT Education Director Nancy Schaeffer is thrilled to organize class supplies on shelves provided by Life Scout Mark Sehnert of Boy Scout Troop 72.  For his Eagle project, Mark led a team of scouts to design, acquire, build and install shelving for the Music Room closet.  Dallas Children's Theater thanks Mark for the shelving unit.

Project Name: Black Chair Carts

DCT Development Director Luis Gonzalez (left) hosts many events at DCT.  These events often require chairs to be moved around the Rosewood Center.  This task just became easier thanks to six rolling chair carts built by Life Scout Bryan Crabb of Troop 72.  For his Eagle Project, Bryan led a team of scouts to design, build and paint these time saving carts.  Each cart can safely move ten plastic chairs.

alt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/06%20steve%20joel.jpgWhat would theDCT staff do without ushers and scenery?  A lot more work!  Two brothers, Joel and Will Sprier of Boy Scout Troop 435, did their Eagle Projects to benefit DCT.  Steve Jones (left), DCT Box Office Manager, and Life Scout Joel Sprier admire the "DCT Volunteer Usher Video."  Joel wrote, directed and produced the video to train our volunteer ushers at DCT.  It can play in the lobby and can stream on the web.

Life Scot Will Sprier (right, with DCT Artist-in-Residence Karl Schaeffer) built ten 3' x 7' panels that can hold scenery for our class productions.  The screens are pin hinged and can be used in many flexible arrangements.

Project Name: Black Chair Carts/Shelves Behind Kitchen

alt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/07%20pearce%20gina.jpgalt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/08%20karl%20pearce.jpgBoy Scout Pearce Illmer has completed his Eagle Project for DCT.  Pearce led a team of scouts to design, build and paint six chair carts and two shelving units.  Each chair cart can safely move ten plastic chairs.  Gina Waits (with Pearce, left), DCT After-School-Drama and Intern Coordinator, thanks Pearce for these carts which will make our interns more efficient.  Karl Schaeffer (with Pearce, above), DCT Artist-in-Residence, congratulates Pearce on the great shelves he built in the storage room behind the kitchen in the Gables.  The shelving units' dimensions are 1' x 12' x 8' and 27" x 8' x 7'6".

alt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/09%20karl%20john.jpgDCT Artist-in-Residence Karl Schaeffer (left) thanks John Schwab, a Boy Scout with Troop 72 for completing his Eagle Scout Project a DCT.  John led a team of scouts to design, build and finish a shelving unit for storing boxes of DCT stationary and season brochures.  In the past, these boxes would clutter our offices.  Thanks to John and his team, we now have three selving units (6' x 32" x 18")-- and they match the kitchen cabinets in the Gables!

Project Name: DCT Needs an AED

alt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/11%20vishal%20khanh%20matthew.jpgDCT has an AED thanks to Khanh Truong of Boy Scout Troop 730.  Kahn led a tem of scouts to research, fund raise, purchase and install an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at Dallas Children's Theater.  Khanh and his team manned the "DCT Needs an AED" booth at seven performances of The Neverending Story alt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/10%20applebys.gifto accept donations and sell tickets to a Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebee's Restaurant.  Boy scouts Vishal Goakani, Khanh and Matthew Edmison are shown left at the booth at DCT.

Project Name: Red Chair Carts/Baby Changing Stations

alt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/14%20travis%20meagan.jpgalt src=http://test.dct.org/images/stories/13%20travis%20meagan.jpgDCT welcomes family members ages 0 to "Young at Heart."  DCT Development Assistant & Coordinator Meagan Carroll (right in both pictures) thanks Life Scout Travis Conine for his Eagle Prject that will make families with infants and toddlers more comfortable at DCT.  Travis led a team of scouts to safely install two baby changing stations in DCT restrooms.  Meagan also thanks Travis and the team he led for the four rolling chair carts, custom-made to store and move our red chairs.  Travis led a team of scouts to design, procure materials, build, paint and deliver these carts to DCT.
