“I wrote everything down for you.  Just follow my instructions and everything will be fine.  But keep an eye on Duck.  He’s trouble.” ~Farmer Brown

(Dallas, TX)  Duck on the loose!  Dallas Children’s Theater (DCT) turns the barnyard upside down this summer with the hilarious sequel to last season’s hit, “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type”.  It’s the regional premiere of GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK, playing June 18 – July 25, 2010 in the Baker Theater at DCT’s Rosewood Center for Family Arts.

GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK picks up where “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type” leaves off.   Good ol’ Farmer Brown has had a lot more to deal with than your average farmer.  His animals went on strike!  He has had enough!  He decides to take a vacation and leave his city-slicker brother in charge with specific directions on how to care for the animals.  Duck, always the trickster, knows this is an opportunity for fun.  Guest director Doug Miller returns to DCT to bring his musical theater expertise to this wildly popular farm sequel.  He says,  "I’m so happy to be back directing at DCT.  We have some of the original cast members, and some new faces in the group - even some new characters.  This show is sure to be a crowd pleaser.  Excitement is in store when the animals have 'free range' of the farm!”

Author Doreen Cronin spent her childhood in Merrick, Long Island and thought she’d grow up to be a police officer or an FBI agent.  Instead, she started law school.  When her father passed away unexpectedly, Doreen suspended her law studies and pursued a career in publishing.  Soon after her father’s death, Doreen awoke in the night and wrote “Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type”.  She knew that it would have made her father laugh, just as she laughed at the funny stories he always told her.  In 2001 the book was selected as a Caldecott Honor Book.  GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK soon followed, and she continues to write humorous stories about Farmer Brown and his animals, including “Dooby Dooby Moo” and “Duck for President”.

The musical stage adaptation of GIGGLE, GIGGLE, QUACK premiered at Lifeline Theatre in Chicago, 2005.  Fans of the book will delight in the sequel, another expanded, Broadway style adaptation with a swinging score.  Children will recognize themes of cooperation, unexpected surprises, creative expression, and innocent mischief.  They will also learn that adults like to have fun too.  Grown-ups will definitely chuckle along.

Lively songs help forward the story, provide an in-depth look at each character and bring the barnyard to life with showbiz pizzazz.  In this show, Duck’s typewriter is replaced by a pencil, which becomes a metaphor for the endless possibilities of imagination (“Golden Pencil”).  A show stopper number (“Pizza Baby”), a sweet cream lullaby (“Nothin’s Gonna Hurt You”) and a lyrical bubble bath ballet (“Pretty Little Pig”) allows each animal to take the stage for a moment to shine.

Farmer Brown needs a break from literate Cows and a practical joker Duck so he decides to take a vacation in Tahiti for a week.  He asks his brother, Bob, an accountant from the city, to take care of the farm.  Farmer Brown gives Bob hand-written instructions about how to care for the animals, but as he is leaving, a pencil falls out of his back pocket.  Hen, Cow and Pig eye it curiously, but Duck knows exactly what to do!   Bob arrives and the mayhem begins!   Duck changes the instructions demanding pizza with anchovies for the hen, beauty day with a bubble bath for the pig, and the DVD of “The Sound of MOO-sic” for the Cow.  Audiences will wonder if Brother Bob suspects something is awry….

Rising from the page to the stage is set designer Randel Wright’s picture perfect country setting with barn and farmhouse kitchen in dueling opposition accentuating the merry chaos of the show.  Linda Blase’s lighting design illuminates bright sun-shiny days on green pastoral rolling hills.  Frivolous and stylish costumes by Laurie Land highlight hints of country chic and charm.

Actors Maxey Whitehead and Brian Hathaway reprise their roles as the sprightly Hen and the trouble-making Duck.  Deborah Brown also returns, this time as a peacemaking, motherly Pig whose character acts as the show’s narrator.  Making their DCT debut is Alan Pollard who doubles as Farmer Brown and Brother Bob, with Noelle Stanley as the Cow.
