It's DCT's Hats Off to 30 Design Contest!

 
Hats off

Dallas Children's Theater invited youth K-12th grade to participate in a hat design contest in honor of the 30th Anniversary Season with Emmy-nominated DCT costume designer Lyle Huchton. From September 2013 to July 2014, DCT presents 11 shows, all carefully chosen to commemorate 30 years as a professional theater performing for youth and families.

LYLE HUCHTON BIO

Lyle Huchton Lyle Huchton has been a working costume designer/stylist in the Dallas area for 20 years. Regional and national commercials: AT&T, Church's Fried Chicken, Texas Lottery, and Chick-fil-a. For DALLAS CHILDREN'S THEATER: A Wrinkle in Time; Pinkalicious The Musical, Diary of a Worm, a Spider and a Fly; Tuck Everlasting; Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day; Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!; Miss Nelson is Missing!; Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. Regional theater: DALLAS THEATER CENTER, THEATRE THREE, KITCHEN DOG THEATER, and THE DALLAS OPERA. Television: PBS series Barney and Friends (2008 and 2009 Daytime Emmy Outstanding Costume Design Nominations) and National Tours for The Wiggles and Barney Live. He received his training at the University of North Texas.

Grand Prize Winners

EVERYONE who submitted an entry will have their beautiful design prominently displayed in DCT's lobby for the entire season.

Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I think it would be so cool to see something that I made up on stage.

Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I thought it would be fun and help me get into Booker T. Washington High School.

Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I entered DCT's "Pinkalicious" contest last fall, and really enjoyed the experience. Although my passion lies in costume design, I also love coming up with hat designs.

Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I wanted to enter this contest because I love to wear hats and design different fashions, and this contest combines those two things together.

Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I thought it would be fun. I love seeing costumes on stage; I love being on stage! I wanted to support what a wonderful place Dallas Children's Theater is for kids wanting to be in creative arts.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

What I want to be when I grow up: Actress.
Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I wanted to enter because if my dream of acting fails, I want to be a fashion designer. I might even do my own line of clothes if I become an actress. I also like entering contests and competing, even though I haven't entered many.

Why I wanted to enter DCT's Hats Off to 30 design contest: I think I'm very creative, and I like to draw. I think it would be cool to see my personal design come to life in a musical.
